More About Kunbi Caste Certificate

The Kunbi caste certificate, issued by the Maharashtra government, provides official recognition under the OBC category. It enables access to reservations in education, jobs, and welfare schemes. Applicants can apply online through the Aaple Sarkar portal by submitting identity, residence, caste, and family documents for verification and approval.

💁🏻 Why is the Kunbi Certificate Important?

The Kunbi caste certificate is not just a document – it is a gateway to dignity, equality, and opportunities. For lakhs of families in Maharashtra, this certificate ensures rightful access to:

  • Educational reservations in schools and colleges
  • Scholarships for students who struggle financially
  • Reserved seats in government jobs and services
  • Benefits from various government welfare schemes

In Maharashtra, the Kunbi caste is recognized under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. For a child in a farmer’s family, this certificate can mean the difference between remaining trapped in poverty or stepping into a brighter future with education and employment opportunities.

For generations, the Kunbi community has been the backbone of agriculture – working the fields, feeding the nation, yet often left behind in terms of recognition and opportunity. Today, with the Kunbi certificate, that ancestral struggle is finally given respect and validation.

👩🏻‍💻 Online Process (via Aaple Sarkar Portal)

🌐 Official Website: aaplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in

3️⃣ Fill in all details in the application form.
4️⃣ Upload the required documents (proof of identity, residence, caste, ancestry).

6️⃣ Submit the application and save your acknowledgment number.

This process allows you to apply without standing in long queues and track your application online until the certificate is issued.

📝 Offline Process (Tehsil / Setu Centre)

For those who prefer traditional methods, the Kunbi certificate can also be applied for offline:

1️⃣ Collect the caste certificate application form from your local Tehsil office / Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office / Setu centre.
2️⃣ Fill out the form carefully and attach the required documents.
3️⃣ Submit it at the office and collect a receipt.
4️⃣ Local officials (Talathi or Revenue Officer) will conduct an inquiry into your family’s caste and ancestral records.
5️⃣ Once verified, your Kunbi certificate will be issued.

📃 Documents Required

The documents play a crucial role in proving your identity, residence, and caste heritage. Missing documents often delay the process, so prepare them well in advance.

🪪 Proof of Identity (any one):

  • Aadhaar Card
  • PAN Card
  • Voter ID Card
  • Driving License

🏠 Proof of Residence (any one):

  • Ration Card
  • Electricity Bill
  • 7/12 Extract (Satbara Utara)
  • Property Tax Receipt

🎂 Proof of Age (any one):

  • Birth Certificate
  • School Leaving Certificate

📜 Caste Proof (most important):

  • Father’s/Grandfather’s school leaving certificate mentioning caste as “Kunbi”
  • Old Revenue records (preferably dated before 1967)
  • Birth/Death records mentioning caste
  • Caste certificate of blood relatives (brother, sister, uncle, cousin) and a genealogy record (Vanshawali)

🚩 Special Provision for Maratha-Kunbi Certificate

The recent government resolution provides special provisions for Maratha families seeking recognition as Kunbis:

1️⃣ If a Maratha applicant does not have proof of agricultural land ownership, they must submit an affidavit declaring that they or their family were residents of the village/local area before 13th October 1975.

2️⃣ Based on this affidavit, a field inquiry will be conducted by revenue officials (Talathi/Tehsildar).

3️⃣ If it is proven that the applicant shares blood relations with an existing Kunbi family in the village, and that relative already holds a Kunbi certificate, then the applicant too will be issued a Kunbi caste certificate.

This step ensures that many families, who have long been part of the same agrarian and cultural lineage, are not denied their rightful recognition due to missing land records.

💔 The Emotional Struggle Behind the Certificate

Imagine a young student from a farmer’s family in Vidarbha or Marathwada. She dreams of becoming a doctor. Her father tills the land day and night, but the income barely covers food and school fees. Without a caste certificate, she cannot access the reserved seat that could help her enter medical college.

For this family, the Kunbi certificate is not just a piece of paper—it is the dream of breaking free from poverty. It is the hope that the sacrifices of their ancestors will not go unrecognized.

Every rejected application feels like an insult to generations of farmers. Every approved certificate feels like justice finally delivered.

📌 Final words

The Kunbi caste certificate stands as a bridge between the hardworking past and the hopeful future. It is a reminder that recognition of identity is as important as the right to equality.

When you hold this certificate in your hands, you carry not only a legal document but also the pride of your ancestors, the respect of your community, and the promise of opportunity for generations to come.
